Q. Can anyone throw axes?
A. Absolutely! We believe that any can throw an axe if they learn how to! Ashleigh has a mean swinging arm and will definitely put Dan to shame at times! We do however have an age limit (which you can see below) and, due to the nature of the activity, it may not be suitable for people with certain medical conditions (consult your doctor if you have any concerns).
Q. What is the age limit for axe throwing?
A. We currently have an age limit of 14+ for joining in on our axe throwing experiences. Any person under the age of 18 will need a parent or legal guardian to consent them to participate via a liability waiver. Unfortunately for the people under 14 years of age, they will just have to wait until they're a bit older.
Q. Are the axes heavy?
A. The axes we use weigh around 1.3kg.
Q. Is axe throwing a safe activity?
A. Our custom made trailer has been designed with safety in mind. It is a fully enclosed trailer meaning the axes are thrown in a safe environment. We will always have staff on hand to monitor the sessions as they go, making sure that everyone involved is as safe as they can be.
Q. Will I be shown how to throw axes?
A. Absolutely! We will take the time to show you how to throw an axe properly. We will give you a demonstration, then we will give you some practice throws and work on your technique through out the session.
Q. Will you come to my location?
A. Kiwi Axe Throwing is a mobile unit that can travel to your location. Please ensure that where you want us to set up is big enough for our trailer and vehicle, and that you have the property owners permission first. We are based in Taupo, North Island. Any location that is more than 50km from Taupo may incur a travel fee.
Q. How big is the trailer?
A. Our trailer is approximately 4.5m (L) x 2.5m (W) x 3.3m (H). However, we do need more space than this to fully operate. For safety reasons, we would need the following dimensions 7m(L) x 5m (W) x 3.5m (H). Basically, the more space, the better! The space should be as flat as possible and accessible via a car. The land used for an axe throwing event must have the property owners permission for us to attend.
Q. I want to organise a party, how many people do I need for an axe throwing session?
A. The axe throwing trailer has two targets on it, so we can only have two participants at one time. We would suggest that a minimum of 8 people join in to make it a fun and competitive environment, however you can have less or more! We would simply rotate participants in a different manner for larger groups that want to get involved. For really large parties such as weddings/milestone birthdays, we would operate the axe throwing as if we were at a large festival or concert.
Q. Do I have to pay a deposit when booking?
A. When making your booking, we will take a deposit of 30% of the total quoted price.
Q. How much does it cost to have Kiwi Axe Throwing at my event?
A. Please go to the page for more information.
Q. How do I book Kiwi Axe Throwing for my event?
Q. How long does a session take?
A. This depends on how large the group is; We do have a minimum booking time of 2 hours for a session, which will definitely accommodate a group of 8 - 20 people, it may need to be longer with larger groups. Please contact us so we can help you decide on this.
Q. What happens if I need to cancel?
A. We do have a 5 day cancellation policy for our axe throwing trailer. Should you cancel your booking before 5 days of the time and date of the event, we will refund your deposit. After the 5 day period has started, your deposit will be non-refundable. You would need to notify us of cancellation via phone as soon as possible.
Q. Is axe throwing weather dependant?
A. We throw axes come rain or shine! So please make sure you're dressed appropriately. If we see that the weather gets progressively worse in terms of wind or rain, we will pause the session until it clears up. If it continues to extreme levels, we will have to finish the session early due to safety concerns.
Q. What should I wear for axe throwing?
A. There is no dress code for axe throwing but there are a few suggestions. Wear something that is comfortable and that you can move around in. Please don't wear hooded tops whilst participating and take off any loose/dangly jewellery before axe throwing. We also recommend wearing closed toe shoes whilst participating.
