Below is a list of commonly asked questions, if you cannot find the answer you want in here, then please don't hesitate to contact us.
Can anyone throw an axe?
What is the age limit for axe throwing?
We currently have an age limit of 14+ for joining in on our axe throwing experiences. Any person under the age of 18 will need a parent or legal guardian to consent them to participate via a liability waiver. Unfortunately for the people under 14 years of age, they will just have to wait until they're a bit older.
Are the axes heavy?
The axes we use weigh around 1.3kg. They are some of the best axes for throwing that you can get! They're well balanced and easy to get a grip of, so don't let the weight put you off.
Is axe throwing a safe activity?
Our custom made trailer has been designed with safety in mind. Just as with any sport or activity, listening to the staff is paramount to everyone having fun and being as safe as they can be.
Will I be shown how to throw axes?
Absolutely! We will take the time to show you how to throw an axe properly. We will give you a demonstration, then we will give you some practice throws and work on your technique through out the session. Our aim is to get everyone getting axes into the target board.
Will you come to my location?
Kiwi Axe Throwing is a mobile unit that can travel to your location. Please ensure that where you want us to set up is big enough for our trailer and vehicle, and that you have the property owner's permission first. We are based in Tauranga, Bay of Plenty.
How big is the trailer and where can I set up?
Our axe throwing trailer is a bit of a beast. It measures at a hearty 5m(L) x 2.5m (W) x 3.1m (H). So please keep this into consideration for access to your site. (Think big trees and narrow gateways and how we can get in there). Although these are the measurements of the trailer, look below for how much space we need for axe throwing activties.
We have made our trailer in way that we can cater for small and large groups. We have the option of having 2 targets or 4. If you're unsure of how many targets you would need, then please don't hesitate to ask.
- 4 targets -
For safety reasons, we would ideally like the following dimensions 6m(L) x 14m (W) x 3.5m (H).
- 2 targets -
For safety reasons, we would ideally like the following dimensions 6m(L) x 7m(W) x 3.5m(H)
Basically, the more space, the better! The space should be as flat as possible and accessible via a car.
The land used for an axe throwing event must have the property owner's permission for us to attend.
Please check out the extremely well designed illustrations below, so that you can see how we would set up to give you an idea of where the space would be used.
(If you're only wanting 2 targets, we would put up the target boards on arrival to put them on the best side for axe throwing, according to where we set up)
I want to organise a party, how many people do I need for an axe throwing session?
The axe throwing trailer has four targets on it, so we can have four participants at one time. We would suggest that a minimum of 10 people join in to make it a fun and competitive environment, however you can have less or more! We would only operate two targets for smaller groups of simply rotate participants in a different manner for larger groups that want to get involved. For really large parties such as weddings or milestone birthdays, we would operate the axe throwing as if we were at a festival where people can come and go as they please.
Do I have to pay a deposit when booking?
When making your booking, we will take a deposit of 50% of the total quoted price.
How much does it cost to have Kiwi Axe Throwing at my event?
The cost begins at $500. For a more accurate quote, please contact us via email, phone or our enquiry form on our contact page. Every event is different and we will tailor your quote to give you the best possible price.
Why don't you have set pricing for your private bookings?
We've discovered that all private bookings are different in one way or another, whether that's a different amount of people, a distant location or style of event. We know that every event is different and we can't charge the same blanket pricing for everyone, so we will tailor make a quote for you to fit your event needs and not over charge you for some axe throwing fun!
How do I book Kiwi Axe Throwing for my event?
Please go to our "Contact us" page for all of our contact information or use our handy message box.
The more information you can give us, the better! supplying us with a date, time, amount of people and a location will really help us get a headstart on getting a quote to you.
How long does a session take?
This depends on how large the group is; We do have a guide that 15 to 20 people (Which is our average group size) would take around 2 hours, it may need to be longer with larger groups. General rule of thumb is the more people, the more time needed for everyone to have a good go at it. Please contact us so we can help you decide on this.
What happens if I need to cancel?
We do have a 14 day cancellation policy for our axe throwing trailer. Should you cancel your booking before 14 days of the time and date of the event, we will refund your deposit. After the 14 day period has started, your deposit will be non-refundable. You would need to notify us of cancellation via phone as soon as possible. Christmas season bookings have a different cancellation time, see our "T&C's" page for more info.
Is axe throwing weather dependent?
We throw axes come rain or shine! So please make sure you're dressed appropriately. If we see that the weather gets progressively worse in terms of wind or rain, we will pause the session until it clears up. If it continues to extreme levels, we will have to finish the session early due to safety concerns. We won't throw in a downpour, but a little bit of fine rain only makes you look that bit more badass!
What should I wear for axe throwing?
Axe throwing is a sport so it is best to wear comfortable clothes that you can move around in. Please don't wear hooded tops whilst participating and take off any loose/dangly jewelry before axe throwing. Closed toe and comfortable shoes are also important.
Do you have a shop we can come to throw axes?
Unfortunately, we are only a mobile outfit. We do not have a premises to throw axes at. We do not have an area for you to come to either. The idea is that we come to you for all the axe throwing madness.
So you don't have a shop, but do you have an area that you can set up and throw axes?
Again, unfortunately not. It is something we are working on, but we cannot offer an area for you to come to just yet.
